Friday:  Finish Reading from Thursday, discuss the historical fiction and play and answer questions regarding historical fiction and drama characteristics

Attention 6th grade Parents:

Do NOT panic if you see a semester test of your student that may be questionable.  They have ALL had to opportunity to take the test originally and make corrections.  After I analyze the data from this exam, chances are any questions that were below 70 will be deemed creditable for extra points.  I will have to figure over the holidays.  If at that time, your child’s grade is FAILING, it will be certainly then as a result of prior performance of not completing work, not correcting work, etc.

Each month they also have and opportunity to gain an extra 100 in the gradebook; however a few DID NOT work on it daily either at school when given an opportunity and/or work at home.  My goal is that ALL of my ELA students be on level prior to STAAR if not before.  Their ELA level goal for December 31st (OVER THE HOLIDAYS) is 650+.  Another 100 will be added before semester and T2 grades are final JANUARY 3rd.

I hope and pray each one of my students and their families have a safe and relaxing Christmas holiday time off and a Happy New Year.  I can’t believe we have made it halfway through the school year.  It’s amazing how time flies!

To all of the students and their families that gifted me something for Christmas, “Thank you” from the bottom of my heart!  I know times are hard financially for all families with the economy the way it is with inflation.  To think of me, your student’s teacher means the world and touched my heart!  God bless!

Love teaching your offspring,

PLEASE HEED WARNING!!!

There are 22 students in Mrs. Jones’ ELA classes that are NOT on grade level in ELA on IXL.  At this point, they should be at least at 630.  Some are closer than others; however, many have known since late August the monthly goals that are expected.  Please ask to see your child’s IXL Diagnostic Page in Reading/Language Arts.  Both numbers should be 630 or higher.  If it’s a range, add the two numbers and divide by 2 for an average.  Those 22 that have not met their goal of 630 by Monday, November 7th will be assigned ZAP Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.  Letters went home to those students today if they were present in class.  If they reach their goal by Sunday night and I pull report first thing Monday am, I will discharge them from ZAP.  Let’s go!  We are close to having every 6th grader on or above level in reading/writing.

My one 8th grader, your level is 830.

***Purpose is to introduce poetry and drama on the DL to my students before we open the unit next week.  Most students claim they hate poetry; however, unless they sit in silence and never listen to music with words, they discover that they are surrounded by poetry daily.

A NOTE FROM MRS. J…First two days was getting to know everyone.  I look forward to working with you and your student as a team to ensure success and happy memories this year in middle school.  This past week we started our NOUNS unit, a basic review; however, much needed before we add in complexity throughout the year.  Please stress to your student the need to be RESPONSIBLE and PROACTIVE.  Please make sure your student has signed into SKYWARD and can show you their grade and what may or may not be missing.  I have a few who are still needing to turn in their parent signature pages for the blog subscription and classroom expectations.  I’m looking forward to a fabulous year.
